Tuition sessions at Monty Sound Production are hands-on from the start, encouraging students to work with the same calibre of sound production equipment they will experience in real-world situations.

The gear at MontySP includes:

  • An 18-channel tablet computer-controlled digital mixer console with dedicated Noise Gates, Parametric & Graphic EQs, Compressor/Limiters, 4 Stereo Effects Processors and 6 Auxiliary Bus Sends

  • Pairs of Klark Teknik 76-KT limiting amplifiers (1176 clone) and EQP-KT program equalisers (EQP-1A clone)

  • Various analogue mixer consoles, ranging from 5 - 32 channels, with Parametric EQs, Mic Pre-Amps and stereo channels, On-board Effects and Main/Control Room Buses 

  • A range of active and passive (with matched power amplifiers) loudspeakers in 8", 10", 12", 15" and 18" formats

  • A comprehensive range of Audio Technica, Blue Microphones, RØDE and Sennheiser dynamic, condenser and ribbon vocal and instrument microphones with cardioid, supercardioid, hypercardioid, omnidirectional and bi-directional polar patterns for live sound reinforcement, studio multi-track recording and podcasting/broadcasting applications 

  • A tablet computer-controlled dbx Driverack PA2 loudspeaker management system, which includes the use of EQs, Compressor/Limiters, 2 or 3-way Crossover, Feedback Detection and Delays

  • A full complement of cables including XLR, TRS/TS, Speakon and RCA connectors for P.A. system and studio recording set-ups

  • A Cubase Pro 12 DAW set-up for audio recording and mastering, MIDI sequencing and sampling, integrated with:

    • Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and Octopre18-in/20-out audio interface configuration

    • Motorised 16-channel desktop control surfaces

    • A range of audio processing, effects & VST instrument plug-ins from Steinberg, iZotope (including Neutron 4, Ozone 11 & RX 10 Advanced, Nectar 4, Vocal Synth 2, Trash 2 & Stutter Edit 2 plug-ins), Waves (including the Teletronix LA-2A & LA-3A, Urei 1176, dbx 160 & Fairchild 660 & 670 Compressor/Limiter emulations; the H-Series, SSL 4000 & Abbey Road Collections; the Pultec EQP-1A and MEQ5 EQ emulations & Aphex Aural Exciter plug-ins), Solid State Logic (SSL), Universal Audio, Spitfire Audio (including BBC Symphony Orchestra Professional), UVI (including the Darklight IIX Fairlight emulation), Arturia (including V Collection 9), Cherry Audio, Inspired Acoustics, PSP Audioware, Softube, Focusrite, Plugin Alliance & others

  • iZotope's RX 10 Advanced Audio Repair platform, which includes the use of Noise Reduction, De-Click, De-Hum, De-Clip, De-Ess, De-Crackle, De-Plosive, De-Reverb, Guitar De-Noise & Spectral Repair modules

  • Behringer Neutron, PRO-1 & K-2 semi-modular analogue synths

Students who have their own tablet computer (Android/iPad) are encouraged to bring it to tuition sessions to install and operate the controller software applications and download PDF and video files to take home.
